Memorial Day Weekend

I would like to say it was a weekend of Fun in the Sun, but it was really a weekend of Fun in the Rain! We headed to the lake Saturday morning and it rained until about 4:00. Good news is the boys and their cousin's Jack and Will seemed not to really notice. Thankfully Matt's mom came prepared with bubbles and art supplies. Matt also came up with fishing off the front porch into the grass. This passed a nice amount of time for Brady and Will. Cal and Matt did do a little fishing and we were able to go out on the boat. The most important part of the day for Cal was getting to do s'mores. We even kicked it up a notch this year with fancy metal sticks with handles rather than dirty old sticks (although I did catch Cal with the dirty old stick also).

Sunday started out rainy, but cleared up nicely. We started the day out with a boat ride and while we were gone Uncle Brent blew up this inflatable island which Brady saw from a mile away as we were heading in from the boat ride. He says "I ride that". And "ride that" he did for about 3 hours off and on that day. The water was freezing, but he seemed not to notice. We had dinner with some friends out on the boat then headed back to end the night with what else? S'mores!

We were planning on spending Monday at the pool, but of course there was more rain. Cal and I did make it to the pool for a short time, but after a lot of rain, some thunder and really dark clouds we headed home.

Matt and his dad have bought an electric smoker, so that was Matt's activity on Monday. You really don't have to watch it like a regular smoker, but it was the first time he has used it, so he was watching it pretty closely. Good news with the Boston Butt is that it was easy to put in, bad news is it did not turn out exactly like Matt had wanted. He is going to try again at a lower temp. and see how that works.

One last fun fact from the weekend. Matt's sister introduced us to an easy Arnold Palmer. It is Firefly Sweet Tea Vodka and Lemonade over ice. It was DELICIOUS and we highly recommend giving it a try.

Do I Really Have a Blog?

I am going to start by saying that I never thought that I would have a blog. I am not sure that I am even a blogger, but I have really enjoyed reading different blogs recently and decided that I would give it a try. I am thinking that being home with a 2 and 4 yo all summer will provide some good blogging material and a few cute pics.

I was trying to come up with a good blog name........ Training Up Super Hero's was a very close 2nd. Proverbs 22:6 tells us to "Train a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not turn from it." Right now both of my boys LOVE super hero's so hopefully Matt and I are training up Godly Super Hero's! If you talk to Cal about asking God for protection, he will tell you that it is God's force-field.

Since I wasn't sold on that title I then tried to think of something re:cooking which got me thinking about hospitality. I came across Guidelines for Hospitality in John 3. John 3:4 says that "I have no greater joy than to hear that my children are walking in the truth." So there is where the No Greater Joy title came from.

I am going to work on getting a background and some pictures up by Monday. If it does not rain hopefully there will be some fun to be had at the lake and the pool this Memorial Day weekend.
